Small friendly town.

One of the most beautiful towns in the Eastern Free State. A very clean town with loads of attractions for the tourist. Please make sure you do not miss the Blikplek and take a drive through the town center to get an idea of the beautiful sandstone buildings the Eastern Free State is known for. For the best service and meals (slow cooked oxtail and eisbein) you can pay Impenani Restaurant a visit! Do NOT miss out on the Constantia Farm Stall just outside the town. Beautiful, beautiful with lots of atmosphere. If you want to see the wonderful warm colours of autumn - go to Ficksburg in April or May!!!

We enjoyed Ficksburg. There are so many interesting things to do if you're willing to drive out a little - say half an hour or more to Clarens and Clocolan. It was our first time there but we'll definitely try go back again.

This was our first visit to the town, on our way to Lesotho, although we had heard of the famous cherry festival in November. As my wife's family had been resident in this part of the country several generations back, we took the time to visit the more 'out-of-the-way' parts of the town and surrounds - what a pleasant experience. From the outrageously eclectic Blikplek, to the totally surprising number of high-class cultural venues (museums, galleries and buildings) - we were blown away! Our Guesthouse was very adequate so we self-catered, but it appeared as if there were several other establishments of the same calibre in town, as well as a selection of places to eat out. We did not have sufficient time available to visit the several unique attractions such as the feather products factories - another reason to visit this charming town and area again in the not-too-distant future. We ended off our visit in a strange fashion - visiting the town cemetery to see if we could trace signs of our ancestors. We were unsuccessful in that regard, but even this little jaunt provided us with fascinating insights into the past and present development of the region. We can't wait to come back this way again!
