Kommetjie is a quaint village located on the West Coast of the Cape Peninsula. It offers visitors and residents a mixed blend of strips of sandy beaches, sprawling mountain ranges and nature trails. With a relatively small population of roughly 3000 people, Kommetjie has a rural yet tranquil atmosphere.
Kommetjie, meaning "small basin" in Afrikaans, was bestowed with the name due to its geographic position - located just below the mountains, and supports parts of the Cape Peninsula.
With strong waves and a cold current, Kommetjie is a popular spot for surfing. With its abundance in crayfish, the small town provides ample crayfishing opportunities for interested parties.
Kommetjie has all the regular outlets for convenience shopping - think petrol stations, laundromats and a wide-variety of restaurants, giving locals no reason to venture into the busy hub of Cape Town.
One major tourist attraction is the Slangkop Lighthouse, a colossal fixture standing tall at 33 metres. The lighthouse can be from as far as the Ou Kaapse Weg Mountain pass. Nearby, visitors can explore the remnants of The Kakapo Shipwreck dating back to the 1900's, located at Noordhoek's Long beach.
Kommetjie has a variety of lodges, beach villas and cottages for visitors and holiday makers.

I'm so excited! I entered this competition on a whim, without ever seriously expecting to win. One of the best surprises of 2015. The weekend away had been to celebrate an awesome friend's birthday, so with the savings we'll have to schedule another awesome trip through Sleeping-out.co.za!

Close to Cape town, but miles away in atmosphere. A weekend get away without the travel hassles but with changes one associates with a holiday .
