North Coast (KZN) Unterkünfte
The North Coast refers to a section of beautiful coastline just north of Durban in Kwazulu Natal. If you are based at any of the towns between (and including) Zimbali and Tugela River (sometimes called Thukela River), you are staying at accommodation on the North Coast.
Throughout most of South Africa’s Kwazulu Natal, you can expect a subtropical climate with hot humid summers and clear, dry and warm winters. Along the North Coast you can expect average summer highs of 28°C and winter highs of 23°C. Perhaps best of all though is an annual ocean temperature of roughly 21°C.
Activities on the North Coast (also known as the Dolphin Coast due to the bottlenose dolphins which inhabit those waters) are plentiful with the ocean and beaches taking centre stage. A combination of pristine beaches, warm weather and pleasant sea temperatures makes beach holidays on the North Coast ideal in any season. Apart from sunbathing and sand-castle construction, there are also plenty of rock pools with clear water allowing you to spot the variety of rock-pool creatures and plants that call this habitat home.
A horse-ride along the beach at low tide is a fun way to pass a few hours and anglers will be in seventh heaven. For something a little different, micro-light flights along the coast provide a whole new perspective on this beautiful coastline.
For the culture vultures among you, the North Coast forms part of the old Zulu Kingdom, in fact the famous Zulu warrior Shaka is buried here. There are also numerous battle sites such as the Ultimatum Tree and Fort Pearson where battles between the Zulus and the British occurred.
One thing you will notice about the North Coast of Kwazulu Natal is the large Indian population. Make an effort to pop into a temple or two while you’re there and do not go home without some colourful spices!
If you are interested in accommodation on the North Coast, consider towns such as Ballito, Shaka’s Rock, Salt Rock and Zinkwazi Beach. Many towns along the coast offer the best of both worlds – beautiful scenery complimented by good restaurants and excellent accommodation options.
Sleeping-OUT has a wide range of accommodation options listed, providing you with one unified database of trusted establishments while our easy, safe online booking system saves you time and money.

Umdloti is a lovely place to stay. The beaches are great, child-friendly too and it's not over- crowded. The water( Indian Ocean) is warm and even though the waves can get quite big, there is a natural rock pool and area where you can swim a lot.
My kids didn't want to leave and neither did we. We had glorious days relaxing, swimming, walking and enjoying the natural beauty of Umdloti beach.
There are some nice restaurants and cafe's to enjoy meals on the water front so you don't have to travel far and if you are self-catering the Kwik spar is very well equipped!

The area is lovely. It is small town, but has everything you could need. There is a Spar and various restaurants. We frequented the Fat Cat coffee shop and were very pleased with the food there. The only draw-back is that you have to pay for access to the beach, but it is fortunately only R20pp, which is doable. A very quaint little town.

Ballito is ideal, most people would love to live there because it is peaceful and has stunning property as well as numerous facilities.

We loved and enjoyed Umdloti very much, the beach is beautiful.
Definitely will come back for our next holiday.
Close to bigger places like Umhlanga and Durban for shopping.
