The small beach village known as Paradise Beach is in many ways, an extension of the ever popular town pf Jeffreys Bay. After all, the two are separated by little more the Seekoeirivier (Hippopotamus River) lagoon. Jeffreys Bay began its life as a sleepy fishing village before being ‘discovered’ by a small group of surfers in the 1960’s. Since then development in the town mushroomed and Paradise Beach is a natural overflow of the JBay development boom.
In comparison to Jeffreys Bay, Paradise Beach is hardly developed at all. Its swathes of open plots, inhabited by birds and plenty of bushes, the fenceless gardens and the small rustic streets simply entrench the holiday beach-town atmosphere which is already pervasive in a seaside town with great views of the ocean.
Paradise Beach, like Jeffreys Bay, experiences a moderate climate with rain scattered throughout the year. Winters (June/July) are undoubtedly cooler but not so much so as to prevent enjoyment of the area. Watersports, like the surfing for which JBay (in particular) is known, are practised throughout the year – a not insignificant fact.
Apart from long beach walks, surfing, kite-surfing and other water activities, there are nature reserves and other green spaces nearby where hiking and birding can be enjoyed. If you keep an eye on the ocean you can often spot dolphins and whales too, an experience which inevitably rounds off a pleasant seaside holiday on the sunny Eastern Cape coast.
