Pretoria CBD Accommodation

Pretoria is Gauteng’s second largest city, and one of South Africa’s 3 capital cities. Pretoria (also referred to as Tshwane since a controversial name change) is South Africa’s de facto capital and acts as the country’s administrative (executive) capital. It is located 55 kilometres to the north east of Johannesburg.

Pretoria has an altitude of 1350 metres and experiences a subtropical climate, with hot rainy summers and cool dry winters. Famously, the city is bursting with Jacaranda trees, earning it the nickname, ‘The Jacaranda City’. As a result, the central business district’s (CBD) streets are often littered with the purple flowers.

Pretoria’s CBD is the traditional centre of government and commerce, although these days many commercial enterprizes – shops, businesses, even government departments – are spread out across the suburbs. These suburbs spread out from the central business district to the north, the west and the east. However, despite there being a decentralisation of businesses, Pretoria’s CBD is still home to some important businesses and organisations. The Union Buildings, which are an impressive construction, are located in the CBD for example.

Pretoria has a number of attractions including the Union Buildings and a surprising variety of natural sites. The National Zoological Gardens of South Africa are a site for sore eyes and the Pretoria National Botanical Garden is also a good place to stroll among the flowers. There are also a number of small nature and game reserves in and around Pretoria where you can see antelope, small mammals and birds. Further afield of course you’ll also come across a number of big 5 reserves.

For the party animals, Hatfield is one of Pretoria’s suburbs with a club scene. The city also has a Gautrain stop.

Pretoria CBD
It was years since I was in Pretoria and I was happy with the way the city is. It is a busy and working city. I found it clean and user friendly, except on the parts of the city where there was consturtion going on.

Pretoria CBD is the place to be, it's close to Church Square, NZG and most businesses and colleges, also not forgetting the State Theater. I just love that City.

Pretoria CBD
My kids enjoyed their first visit to Pretoria because of the amazing zoo we visited. They also wanted to visit the museum but did not get the time to do so. We all enjoyed a relaxed but educational visit to the beautiful Union Building,.
