Leipoldt's Country Retreat is located in the small village of Leipoldtville, north-east of Elands Bay. The Reverend C.J.Leipoldt, father of the famous South African poet, C Louis Leipoldt, established the village in 1905 by starting a congregation of the Dutch Reformed Church to serve the farming community in the area. The core of the retreat is the old homestead dating from the late 1700’s, which because of its age, is considered a Heritage Site. We are famous for instant relaxation, warm hospitality, stargazing and being a prime birdwatching spot.
Unit 1 is an en-suit (bath & shower)room which forms part of the old house but has a separate entrance from the surrounding courtyard. A lapa & boma is also available for use. The second en-suit (shower only)room is separate with a fireplace and its own small garden courtyard.
The Wart hog pub and restaurant provide a relaxed atmosphere for the weary traveller returning from a full day of sightseeing. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and picnic baskets provided on request. On site we also have a swimming pool and museum.
The satellite and street view options are provided by Google. We use the provided location information to display these and they should be used as a guide and accuracy is not guaranteed.
