In addition the reserve also offers birdwatching, picnicking, fishing, canoeing, a picturesque game drive on our open game viewing vehicles ensuring a most memorable game viewing experience. Walking and hiking trails abound through the reserve; view the abundant range of wildlife and birdlife that would satisfy any nature lover. Relish the pleasant and safe encounters with our game, from Zebra, Wildebeest, Impala, Blesbuck, Bushbuck, Nyala, Eland, Waterbuck, Duiker and Monkeys as well as a friendly giraffe called Gambit that will let you get up-close.

The focus of Mansfield Lodge is relaxed and informal and we invite you to discover Mother Nature at her finest. Walking trails and hikes abound through the grassland and wooded valleys, follow animal routes and learn to identify the various spoor (animal footprints), trees and plants and enjoy pleasant, safe encounters with our game (no predator or dangerous game has been allowed).

In the evening sit around a large Boma pit fire, relive and share your experiences and enjoy all of the warm hospitality that Mansfield has to offer. The Reserve is also only a short distance from historical Bathurst and its 1820 settler history as well as 45 minutes from Grahamstown with it's Cathedral, Rhodes University and historical attractions. Black Rock our distinctive riverside restaurant is open during the season for light meals and drinks, whether you are wanting to relax after a game drive or looking for somewhere to dock after a trip up the Kowie River. The restaurant is also available for wedding, corporate, year end functions & birthday parties.

We have a wonderful kids play park and picnic facilities, with braai (barbeque) areas. We also have wood & braai packs (in season) available for sale.
