Over the Mountain Guest Farm is situated in the hamlet of Herold at the top of the Montagu Pass amidst spectacular mountain scenery on 1 of only 14 hop farms in South Africa. We are centrally situated for Guests to explore both coastal and inland attractions of the Klein Karoo and Garden Route. Just 2kms off the R62, 35kms to George and 38kms to Oudtshoorn.

We offer comfortable accommodation in five historic buildings namely the "Police Station", "Post Office", "School", "House of Sin" and "Welsch House". These buildings date back to 1860 and once formed the heart of the bustling town of Herold. These historic buildings have been renovated into a delightful array of accommodation, pub and dining area.

Ideally suited for people in need of tranquility or relaxation around our swimming pool, the more active will find great bird watching, mountain biking, walking or hiking right on our door step.

"Post Office" These 4 double en-suite bedrooms with their own private entrances have a colonial feel to them with their oregon pine floors, yellow wood beams and wooden shutters.

"Welsch House 1 & 2" These 2 double en-suite bedrooms with their own private entrances and vine covered verandas offer scenic views over the valley. With their reed ceilings and wooden floors these rooms are quiet delightful.

"House of Sin" The "House of Sin" built during the construction of the Montagu Pass, offers self catering accommodation sleeping 5 people. This building with its wooden floors and thick walls really takes one back in time.

"Welsch House" The "Welsch House 3" also offers self catering accommodation sleeping 4 people. With its oregon pine floors, reed ceiling and stone walls this is the perfect place for a family stay.

Quad biking, 4x4 trails and wine tours are but 10 minutes away.The close attractions in the area include Cango Caves, Ostrich Showfarm, and The Great Waterfall in Meiringspoort.

Directions
After passing but not taking the turn off to Mossel Bay on the N2 take the Oudtshoorn / Uniondale / George Airprort Turn-off. Turn left at the intersection. Carry on straight with the road going past the entrance to the airport on your left. At the cross roads/stop street go straight. Keep going with the road until you come to a fork marked left to Oudtshoorn and right to George. Go Left R404 to Oudtshoorn / Uniondale. This will carry you through the township of Blanco. Continue with the road until you come out at the Outeniqua Pass go left onto the Outeniqua Pass which is a tar road (or straight onto the Montagu Pass which is a dirt road). Carry on up the Outeniqua pass (or continue up the scenic Montagu Pass). You will come to a sign left to Outshoorn. (As the dirt road becomes tarmac we are situated on the right hand side.) Don't turn left but continue on straight for about 9 kilometres where there will be a sign HEROLD. Turn right and continue for about 2 kilometres until the end of the tar and turn left into OVER THE MOUNTAIN GUEST FARM!
