Portland Manor High in the hills above Knysna lies the historic estate of Portland Manor, known to readers of Dalene Matthee's "Moerbeibos" as the home of the Hon. Henry Barrington (1808 - 1882). His adventure seeking nature led to a chance meeting with Thomas Duthie from whom he purchased the farm "Die Poortlande". It took Henry 16 years to build Portland Manor and eventually completed the mansion fit for his bride, Georgeanna, in 1864.
Today the farm is owned by Mr and Mrs D.A.J Corne. At considerable expense and effort, they have lovingly and carefully restored Portland Manor. If Henry Barrington were to walk into the Manor today, he would be amazed to find that it has finally become the charming residence he dreamed of.
The estate also includes Lawnwood Lodge, an 18 bedroom lodge equipped with all the modern amenities and has been designed with the "Olde Worlde" feeling that the rest of the estate projects.
Manor Dining Room The stylish and atmospheric decor of the dining room will transport you back to a bygone era. The Cape yellowwood floor and ceiling give this room a wonderful feel. The baby grand piano is played to our guests as they gather in the library, bar and lounge for pre dinner drinks.
The ambience that the music creates is a perfect start to a truly wonderful evening of fine wine and dining.

Manor Bedrooms Largely unaltered since building and subsequent rebuilding after the great fire of 1869, the 8 tastefully furnished bedrooms are comfortable and will ensure a peaceful night's rest. Some of our bedrooms afford enchanting 4 poster beds popular at the turn of the century.
All Manor House bedrooms offer a tea and coffee facility and hairdryer.

Directions Portland Manor is situated approximately 10km off the N2 Highway between Knysna and George. After taking the Rheenendal turnoff simply follow the signs for the Manor.
