Deep in the Southern Drakensberg, in the valley of the Bell River, at the foot of the highest mountain pass in South Africa (Naudesnek) lies the picturesque town of Rhodes, on the main route between Barkly East and Maclear.

The small, charming village has been restored to resemble the original village of more than a century ago.

Guests are accommodated in cosy and comfortable rooms or farm houses.

There is a big choice from en-suite bedrooms and self-catering accommodation in the village to lovely old farm houses on the banks of rivers and also some camping sites.

Directions
Rhodes Village is happily far from any major centre, and getting there is half the fun. The trick is to find your way to Barkly East or Elliot and than take the gravel road (a good 60 Kms) through the mountains.

The road is usually in pretty good condition and any old jaloppy will get you there, but drive carefully. Hairpin bends that really do amazing twists are a regular feature.

In heavy rains or snow, however, the road can be treacherous and extreme care is needed. If you're uncertain, always phone Rhodes Reservations once you get to Barkly/Elliot to check on road conditions.
