Wild Ivory Eco Lodge is a private and exclusive bush lodge situated in Welgevonden Game Reserve, a well established big 5 game reserve in the Limpopo province of South Africa and in the heart of the Waterberg biosphere reserve. The Waterberg area is one of South Africa’s least populated areas and one of the best wildlife areas in Southern Africa.
In addition to the big 5 species (lion, elephant, Rhino, Buffalo and Leopard) and the numerous other species which occur within the reserve, it also offers some of the best Rhino and Cheetah sightings in southern Africa.
The Wild Ivory Eco Lodge is positioned in one of the ‘sweeter’ bushveld areas in the Western section of the reserve with an abundance of plains game which will in turn attract the large number of predator species which occur in the reserve.
The lodge is elevated and overlooks a wooded plain and private waterhole. The elevated position allows for beautiful and uninterrupted views over the reserve and up the Waterberg escarpment.
Wild Ivory is one of the few lodges in South Africa which is eco friendly and low impact. The lodge has natural, rustic finishes and the main lodge has a large raised deck with swimming pool, sunken boma and elevated view of the waterhole and plains below.
Accommodation is in luxury tents or more like canvas lodge rooms with lovely views and very well acquainted bathrooms. Large double beds and outside lounges allow you complete comfort and relaxation in a true wilderness setting.

Wild Ivory is based in the big 5 Welgevonden game reserve which forms part of the Waterberg biosphere reserve. To ensure best possible game viewing opportunities we use open top 4×4 game viewing vehicles which are driven by experienced game rangers. The rangers are very familiar with the reserve and the movements of the animals within the reserve. Welgevonden is an open system and the wildlife move freely throughout the park so there is no guarantee to see all species but the parks offers some of the best viewing in South Africa and each drive offers a unique experience where a number of birds, animals and other species will be seen along with some spectacular scenery. Guests staying on the lodge will be unlucky not to see at least three of the big 5 and many other species. Due to the protection offered in the reserve to the animals most species are comfortable with the vehicles and close sightings are regular which will allow for some excellent photographic opportunities.
