Welcome to Mpotshane Safaris and Private Game Reserve. This hidden treasure is situated only 60 km from East London on the N2 travelling towards Durban.

Mpotshane Private Game Reserve is situated in the malaria free Eastern Cape and is privately owned. The reserve boasts with a number of game, bird and plant species.

Game species that can be seen on our game drives include the following:
Nyala, Eastern Cape Kudu, Greater Kudu, Cape Bushbuck, Blue Wildebeest, Burchell's Zebra, Southern Impala, Common Blesbok, Warthog, Grey Duiker, Mountain Reedbuck, Bush Pig, Chacma Baboon, Vervet Monkey etc.

The Reserve is partly mountainous, with gorges, waterfalls and hanging cliffs, offering some of the most spectacular views in Southern Africa. Open plains and bush that vary from pristine to ravine together with impassable wild areas create a haven for the above mentioned species.

At Mpotshane Lodge you can relax and feel the heart of Africa in the vibrating rhythm of the Mpotshane Gorge cutting its way through exquisite indigenous fauna and flora.

Sip evening cocktails around the fire in the lapa, lounge or on the deck, with million stars above and the bark of a bushbuck in the thickets across the way, the call of the night jar in the distance.

The Lodge offers accommodation for six couples in 6 en-suite thatched units. All units have electric lights, queen size beds with comfortable mattresses, rustic wooden headboards, rustic bedside tables and bedside lamps, bedside mats and chest of drawers etc.

There is also a self catering unit with three bedrooms if you prefer this form of accommodation.Only by 4x4

The en-suite bathrooms feature a shower, (hot and cold water) basin and toilet. Each unit is also equipped with a wooden deck which overlooks the picturesque Mpotshane valley and gorge.

There are number of British Fortifications in the vicinity of Komga, including Fort Hill, Fort Warden, Fort Linsingen, Fort Warwick and Komgha Fort.

Other reminders in and around the town include the memorial to the action at Draaibosch where Major Moore won the first VC to be awarded in Africa, St. Paul's Anglican Church and "The Ark", the oldest building in Komga, built by the 7th Dragoon guards, (The Princess Royals), in 1839.

The library of the town is a declared Heritage Site.

Nearby are a number of spectacular topographical features notably the Kubusie Canyon, an awe inspiring cleft in the Earth cut by the Kubusi River. Within the valley are a number of sites where the artifacts and rock paintings are testimony to the people who had settled here tens of thousands of years before.

Directions
By road:
From East London
Take the N2 highway to Umtata approximately 60 km
out of East London, watch out for the signboard TYITYABA - turn right, 4km along you will find the entrance to Mpotshane Game Reserve on the left.

From Durban
Take the N2 highway through the Transkei – 60 km to East London watch out for the signage TYITYABA – turn left, travel 4 km – Mpotshane Game Reserve entrance is on the left.

From Johannesburg:
Take the N1 highway to Aliwal North – N6 to East London – Turn right about 20km other side Stutterheim - Turn right onto the Komga road, travel for 37km to Komga - Go through the town and travel for about 4km's and turn left at the N2 intersection - Travel for 2km's and turn right at TYITYABA, 4km along you will find the entrance to Mpotshane Game Reserve on the left.
