Düsternbrook is situated on a mountain with a breath taking view overlooking a dry wide riverbed and a waterhole, is the first and oldest guest farm in Namibia. The historical old farm house, was built in colonial style and out of natural stone, is nestled at the foot of the Khomas Highland Mountains and the surrounding African Savannah.

Before 1908 the area was called ”Otjihorogo“ (the plae of the kudu). The ranch was situated on the old ox wagon road which formed the main supply route from the coast (Walvis bay) to the interior, called Bay road.
Activities: As part and parcel of the overnight fee we offer an very exciting cheetah and leopard drive and a game drive with the following game: Oryx, Kudu, Giraffe, Zebra, Ostrich, Wildebeest, Eland, Impala,Warthog, Hartebeest, Waterbok, Springbok, Klipspringer, Steenbok and if you are lucky you see Rhino.

Further more: We offer a big pool in summer, horse riding and Rhino tracking by foot. If you stay two nights a early morning mountain drive is for free. Here, in spectacular mountain scenery, you might see the Hartmann Mountain zebra which is endemic to Namibia.

Or why don’t you go for a walk on our well marked walking trails, discover the surroundings or the rich bird life or just relax at the pool or have an inviting swim in the southern summer month.

The 1909 farmhouse (early settler style) is situated high on a riverbank and overlooks breathtaking scenery with unspoiled nature and wildlife. The African savanna and the riverbed below the farmhouse offer you the real impression of being "Out of Africa". Düsternbrook Guest Farm, near Windhoek, is centrally situated and an ideal venue not only for your first and last nights in Namibia but also to rest for a few days between the northern and southern parts of your Namibian tour.
Safari Guest Farm Duesternbrook is not big, no buses, we only have 13 beds in single and double rooms and two double safari luxury tents. We also have a camping site, which offers enough space for 4 to 5 Campers. Apart from other awards from the Namibian Hotel Association HAN we are the only guest farm which has obtained 4 out of 5 flowers in the Namibia ECO award. In total Namibia there is may only one or two Wilderness Lodges who also managed to get awards this high and we are proud of that.

Our food is freshly prepared European cuisine enriched with with local products. The meals often include local game or farm-assured Namibian beef dishes. We also offer home made jam, sausages and smoked meat and every day there is fresh homemade bread. In our Winter (May to July), dinner is served in the dining room of the main house with antique furniture and a fireplace. In Summer dinner is served on the open veranda with a beautiful view over the riverbed or in our thatched 'lapa' (lapa is the local word for eating place).

We offer a small selection of good South African white and red wines and Namibian beer, which is brewed in the German tradition ("Reinheitsgebot"). We also offer various soft drinks, fruit juices and water. Before dinner we recommend our Kir Duesternbrook, a french type of aperitif made from wild figs and white wine.

If you like a mix of family atmosphere (no buses) and historic ambient, and you like to care about wildlife and nature to keep it clean you should be our guest and enjoy the individual care and hospitality at Düsternbrook oasis in Namibia.
