The Old Trading Post - Welgedacht Game Reserve | Game Lodges & Resorts Dinokeng South

The Old Trading Post is situated in the Welgedacht Game Reserve, which forms part of the Dinokeng Game Reserve, a joint venture between Landowners and Local Government. Dinokeng is half an hour from Pretoria and one hour from Johannesburg and will be home to the Big Five during 2011, making it Gauteng's only Big Five Reserve.

The original building at The Old Trading Post is an old shop built circa late 1800’s and was known at The Voorslag Winkel. It was a square non descript building, comprising of a shop on one side and living accommodation on the other, built out of cement and gravel blocks cast on site. No running water or ablutions existed in the building, as it was services by a hand water pump and a long drop.

At some point the shop was abandoned and stood derelict for about 60 years.

Recently, we lovingly set about restoring The Voorslag, turning it into two self contained guest suites, complete with electricity and running water for the very first time. Its situation at the top of a small valley with a view down to the Boekenhout River, ensures breath taking sunsets, in tranquil surroundings, teaming with birds and wildlife.

The comfortable decor, a blend of antique and contemporary makes for a unique experience in a fascinating old building, rejuvenating the soul and leaving one feeling totally at peace.

Directions
Take the N1 towards Polokwane, turn off at the Zambezi off ramp. Go through the Toll Gate (Toll Fees R7-00) turn right at the robot onto Zambezi Drive (towards Cullian). Go under the highway and turn left at the second set of traffic lights into R573 (KwaMhlanga Road). Proceed along R573 for 25 kms. Turn left onto Hammanskraal dirt road. Continue on this road for 4.5 Kms. The road splits, take the right hand split toward a red gate. Once through the red gate continue straight until the road splits again, take the left split. From the red gate drive 3.5 kms to reach the black gates of Welgedacht Game Reserve.
