Thaba Pitsi, which means "Mountain of the Zebras" in Northern Sotho is situated in the Waterberg in Limpopo, the "Province of Peace". Thaba Pitsi Nature Reserve is located in close proximity to Gauteng: one and a half hours drive from the Johannesburg International Airport and one hour’s drive from Pretoria. The Waterberg mountain range in the Limpopo Province is noted for its moderate climate and is considered South Africa's last great wilderness. Thaba Pitsi has been included in the SLEEPOVER (the Good Lodge Guide) as part of the Top 10 most beautiful lodges in Mpumalanga, North-West Province and Limpopo Province. Only 3 lodges out of the 10 are situated in our province. Thaba Pitsi ****Lodge (only DBB) with its African luxury tents (5) and his Ndebele bungalows (3) up there on the hill, in the heart of the nature reserve, speak of sweet dreams under the stars of the African sky.
African luxury tents: 5 African luxurious bush/safari tents (3 of them cater for 2 people the 2 others for a family of 4). The tents are individually decorated, each with an en suite bathroom and are nestled in the shade of indigenous trees (more than 70 species) with a private wooden deck overlooking the magnificent hills and are separated of about 100m from each other. Thanks to this disposition, we offer you all the privacy you wish. Ndebele chalets: In addition to the tents, Thaba Pitsi offers “cozy” chalets with en suite bathrooms, in a “chic” African style. Two of the chalets cater for 2 people (with outside bathroom), while the other chalet caters for 4 people. The Chalets are close to each other and are situated close to the 2 swimming -pools and the rest of our facilities Camp facilities include: The “Zebra Café” our Breakfast, Bar & Conference area, a Fitness & treatment area, a jacuzzi and 3 swinging beds overlooking the large swimming-pool. While you relax, the children can splash around in their very own kiddies pool. All our facilities blend superbly with the natural surroundings, consequently complementing one another very well.

ACTIVITIES & VISITS: Thaba Pitsi Nature Reserve allows combining nature discovery with outdoor activities. Thaba Pitsi Nature Reserve offers different kinds of activities. In the first category of activities, you find all the activities that you can do on the spot, in the reserve and which are included in the rates. The second category is formed by activities for which you should pay an additional fee. Those activities can either be organised within the reserve or very close to the reserve. Visits are an other form of activities that most people will enjoy. All the activities described below are included in our rates and can be enjoyed within the reserve. - Game viewing (one per stay) : Accompanied by our game-ranger, guests can explore and experience the African bush in an open “vintage” Land Rover truck, or you can take game walks at your leisure. For the more adventurous, mountain bikes are available to explore the reserve. Guests are likely to closely encounter, just about every non-threatening African animal such as the Zebra, Bushbuck, Blesbuck, Blue Wildebeest, Bush pig, Caracal, Duiker, Eland, Eagle, Giraffe, Grysbok, Impala, Klipspringer, Kudu, Oryx, Ostrich, Reedbuck, Red Hartebeest, Steenbok, Warthog and Baboon. The amateur birdwatcher will relish in the variety of more than 223 bird species. The amateur tree watcher will relish in the variety of more than 70 species.
- Walking Trails (28km): as Thaba Pitsi is an Eco reserve where live only non-dangerous animals such as zebras, antelopes... You can walk safely in the bush and observe the flora and the fauna.
- Mountain bike trails: we have at your disposal mountain bike, which you can use to discover the bush.
- Photography: the Bush is an excellent place to develop your photographic talents!
- Stargazing: the telescope of the reserve whenever you feel like observing the sky.
- Visit at the old mines: there are archeological sites on the reserve. A visit of the old mines can also be arranged.
- Tennis: the tennis court is situated between the restaurant & the Country House.
- Swimming and Jacuzzi: the swimming pools and the Jacuzzi are available at the ****Lodge & at the *** Country House. The nice South African temperatures allowed you to go swimming from September to May.
- Billiard & Darts: you can play billiard & darts at the Zebra Cafe.
- Pétanque: You can play the pétanque (French balls) just besides the restaurant. The activities described below are considered as extra activities and ask an additional charge to do it. You can do some of these activities within the Thaba Pitsi reserve & other close to the lodge. (Prices of the activities). Within the Lodge: - Health & beauty treatments: Revitalize your mind, body and soul at our unique Bush Spa. Our fully trained therapist will pamper you with an: * essential oil massage or hot stones (full-body /back-neck-shoulders) * facials * reflexology * aromatherapy * manicure * pedicure All of these treatments are done in the privacy of our spa, on a deck overlooking the bush. For guests who prefer a more energetic form of relaxation, we offer treadmills, bicycles and gym equipment to stay in good shape. You can also cool down in the large swimming pool with its waterfall, relax in the open-air jacuzzi or on the spacious wooden sun deck.
- Horse trails: No matter what’s your horse-riding level. In quick time or slowly, discovering the bush with horses is the best way to approach the games. R200/horse ±1h30 - Horse riding lessons: Group horse riding lessons or private lessons are organised on request. The lessons take place in the paddock and are given by a qualified teacher. - 4 Wheeler trails: Accompanied by one member of our staff, you will discover the Bush with a 4 wheeler. You can follow the track or cut through the bush. R200/quad/hour Clay pigeon shooting: A member of our staff will provide you all the equipment, quality shotguns, clay targets, ammo and the explanation you will need it to enjoy this precision sport .R300/25 targets (minimum 50 targets/pers. & minimum of 2 pers. required). - bow shooting ($) R50/pers. 1/2h/guided. We supply bows, arrows, target & instructions. Minimum of 2 required - The bow shooting fields is situated besides the Tennis court. - Fishing is possible in different places in & round the Reserve.
- Hunting can be organised on neighbouring farms (on request). - Golf: You feel like playing golf? No problem, you can enjoy different gorgeous Golf Club around Bela Bela.
The Northern Province and surroundings are rich in places to visit. All of these visits can be organised on request. Thaba Kwena crocodile farm is the largest crocodile farm in South Africa open to the public. The farm houses more than 22 000 crocodiles. You will learn a lot about how those reptiles live, eat, reproduce, breed... Crocodile meat is also available for retail. De Wildt Shingwedzi Cheetah & Wildlife Ranch: The Cheetah farm was established in 1971 with the aim of breeding endangered species. While the cheetah project was the base from which the centre launched its conservation ethic, it soon widened to include other rare and endangered animals species such as wild dog, brown hyena, serval... Nylsvley Nature Reserve is a 4.000HA reserve and lies between the Waterberg Mountains & the Springbok Flats at 50 km North of Bela Bela. It is a Birds sanctuary with 400 species and 80.000 birds Other places to visit in the area include the natural springs & thalasso therapy facilities at For Ever resort, Bambalela rehabilitation centre, the Makapansgat caves, Potgietersus Platinum mine and the Carousel Casino and Entertainment Centre situated at 50 kilometers from Thaba Pitsi.
