Hitgeheim Country Lodge is situated on an eco-reserve in the heart of the malaria-free Sundays River Valley, only minutes from the Addo Elephant National Park. On arrival you are warmly welcomed into this place of peace and tranquility. The stylishly appointed chalets offer extra-length beds draped in romantic mosquito nets with crisp white percale linen. Luxurious bathrooms, outdoor showers and private wooden decks with breathtaking views invite you to relax and unwind completely.

Awake to the haunting cries of the fish-eagles, residents to the Sundays River below the veranda of your chalet. Accompany our guide on a safari to the Addo Elephant National Park for the best elephant viewing in the world, arrange an exhilarating elephant back safari, visit one of the near-by ‘Big 5’ private game reserves or simply go for a walk on the reserve. Afterwards, indulge in a refreshing swim or sundowners on the veranda as day gives way to the silence of a vast African night.

Hitgeheim Country Lodge consists of 5 superior and 3 luxury chalets set amongst indigenous gardens with prolific birdlife. Each chalet offers stylishly appointed bedrooms with luxurious bathrooms, private wooden decks with panoramic views overlooking the Valley below and the Addo Elephant National Park in the distance.

Hitgeheim Country Lodge has established a reputation for outstanding cuisine. Dining with regional cuisine and unique story-telling wines from the walk-in wine cellar ensure that dining is an unforgettable experience. A 6-course menu is presented every evening and served in luxurious splendour. All meals are carefully planned and lovingly prepared by the resident chef to suit the guests’ special dietary requirements, if any. A scrumptious breakfast on the veranda whilst taking in the stunning views on offer, constitutes a perfect start to the day. Breakfast includes seasonal fresh fruits, stewed dried fruit, yoghurt, muesli and cereals, preserves and fresh fruit juices followed by a traditional South African breakfast or the ‘Sunrise Surprise’.

Directions
Recommended route from Port Elizabeth: N2 to Grahamstown. R335 to Addo Elephant Park past Markman and Motherwell - 40km's to Addo, Turn left at R336 to Kirkwood. After 9km's,Past Sunland Village, over bridge, left at sign, onto first tar then becoming gravel road - after 2.2kmm turn. Left at entrance to Hitgeheim. Follow the marked road through the reserve. Look out for wild animals and cars coming from the front. Enjoy the bush experience until you reach the lodge 2.5km

Recommended route from Graaff-Reinet: R72 to Port Elizabeth. R335 to Kirkwood/Addo Elephant National Park. Turn right at 4-way stop in Kirkwood. After 20km's, look out for Prospect Road and our sign. Turn right, follow the road first section tar rest gravel for 2.2 km. Left at entrance to Hitgeheim. Follow the marked road through the reserve. Look out for wild animals and cars coming from the front. Enjoy the bush experience until you reach the lodge 2.5km
