Come and share the dream that we call Bayete that is indeed a place where special things happen. Bought as a farm back in December 1999, this magnificent piece of Zululand has been lovingly rehabilitated to its former glory. Gone are the cattle fences, overgrazed lands and chilli-fields. In their place is what we consider to be one of the most highly stocked and ecologically balanced game reserves in northern Zululand. It has taken us seven years, one crippling drought and more money and hard work than I wish to remember. But it’s been worth it, as you will soon discover.

Only 276 kilometres from Durban, which is a two-and-a-half hour drive or 40 minutes by light aircraft, we are just far enough from civilization for you to leave it all behind and relax.

We opened our boutique lodge in July of 2006 and are at last ready to welcome friends, families and other guests to our Zululand dream. We invite you to a breakaway holiday experience that really does have something for everyone – you can lie by the pool and sip cocktails, wallow in the outdoor Jacuzzi, commune with elephants, go on butterfly walks, track game on foot or go on game drives, and end the day under a dense canopy of stars sitting down to a splendid bush dinner. Thrill or chill, it’s all here.

We are ideally situated in the centre of Zululand's major tourist attractions. Whatever outings interest you, we can arrange. Whether you want to swim with dolphins, float with whales, catch the mighty tiger fish in the Pongola dam, visit cultural Zulu villages and learn a tribal dance, fish for shark or marlin, boat ride on fresh water estuaries, or take a flip over the Elephant Coast in a light plane, it’s all here just waiting for you.

Whichever adventures you have, know that you will return to sundowners, a convivial atmosphere, good food and comfortable beds.

Directions
Flights arrive from international destinations into Johannesburg airport daily, you will need to change from the international terminal to the domestic for your flight to Durban, where we can collect you by arrangement, this is then followed by a 3.5 hour drive to the lodge.

Our recommended route is to arrive into Johannesburg international airport and then to take a connecting flight into Richards Bay airport. Here we will collect you followed by a scenic 1.20 hour drive through Zululand to the reserve.

For those who don't want to drive a charter can be arranged from Richards Bay to Mkuze followed by a 20 min drive to the lodge.

Take the N2 from Durban heading North past Richards Bay then past Hluhluwe for 26kms. You will arrive at a petrol station / Boabab Inn on your right hand side, turn left onto the dirt road opposite this. Travel 9km until you reach our clearly marked gate on your right hand side.

Bayetezulu turn-off is situated only 276 kms North of the Umhlanga /
Mt. Edgecombe / Gateway off-ramp.

The roads are in excellent condition and the journey time dependant on the driver is between 2.5 to 3 hours including a petrol and refreshment stop.

We recommend you stop for petrol and refreshments approx. 50 kms from Durban at Mvoti Ultra City / Plaza. We recommend you try the chicken burgers.

You do not need a 4 x 4 vehicle. The last 9 kms is a good gravel dirt road which I have seen navigated in an M3 BMW. In the unlikely event of heavy rains call the lodge and we will meet you at the N2 and arrange safe parking for your vehicle and escort you in by game-viewer.

Follow the N2 to Durban turn off onto the new Northcoast road and follow the above.

An alternate route can be followed heading towards Pongola then down to Mkuze until you reach the Boabab Inn follow the directions listed above.
