Definitely unique with its mixture of nature, culture, 19th Century World Charm & true Klein Karoo hospitality! Peace & Tranquility!

Situated only 10 km outside Oudtshoorn in the picturesque Schoemanshoek Valley, en-route to the Cango Caves. Surrounded by the enchanting Swartberg Mountains and blessed with the most spectacular views in the valley.

Rooderandt’s old manor, where guests can sit down for breakfast or lounge on the terrace, is truly a place where time rolls back.

This feeling of entering a time capsule can be attributed to any number of things: the massive poplar roof supports and the reed ceiling, the fireplace that takes up the better part of one wall, the treated clay floors or the antique furniture.

Maybe it’s the old mission bell outside, or the teak front door that comes from Cape Governor Simon van der Stel’s hunting lodge (dating back to the 1600s). Maybe it’s a combination of all these things. However, one thing is for sure: It's impossible to feel rushed here. And if you sit quietly and soak up the rustic atmosphere long enough, you’ll realise why Rooderandt is the place where your heart feels at home.

The four private cottages combine the old and the new. Each one is individually and stylishly decorated with genuine antique furniture with attention to detail. 19th Century stoves/fireplaces combined with the convenience of air-conditioning for the hot Karoo summers. Each cottage is equipped with spacious own private bathrooms and has a patio offering unsurpassed views across the valley. The ideal place to relax with a glass of wine and watch the magnificent sun sets.

Rooderandt is perfect for a romantic getaway - Stylish, spacious, luxurious, warm and comfortable. The HONEYMOON SUITE has a private entrance with private stoep/patio and garden. We serve a true South African breakfast in summer on the terrace.

In the true spirit of Rooderandt, its garden is authentically indigenous without feeling puristic or pretentious. The terraces are strewn with typical Karoo plants: spekboom, klapperbos and botterboom, although you do come across the odd fruit tree lane or lavender patch.

Here and there you are surprised by an unexpected relic from the past: a whitewashed clay oven with a Welcome Dover cast iron door, an old-fashioned grain or flour bag scale or a bench vice.

If you walk higher up into the koppies (hills), you find yourself among plakkies, vygies and noem-noem, typical vegetation of the succulent Karoo plant region of which Oudtshoorn forms part.

Rooderandt also boasts a variety of cacti. The garden is a delight for any bird, and the patient birdwatcher can expect to see Cape Robins, bokmakieries, barn owls, sunbirds, African Hoopoes and Bulbuls, among other species.

If you’re lucky, you may even spot a Black Eagle or the elusive African Fish-Eagle that often makes itself heard at sunset.

A once in a lifetime experience!

Please note that we have 2 very friendly and well socialized dogs!
