Amakhosi Lodge is one of those destinations that you need to visit at least once in a lifetime! Translated as a ‘place of kings’, it is exclusive, offering a unique and personally rewarding safari experience.

Situated on the banks of the Mkuze River in the heart of Zululand, this small yet absolutely charming Lodge is not only about experiencing a ‘Big 5’ safari. It is far more than that as the guides pride themselves in sharing their intimate knowledge of this unique and pristine bushveld with their guests.

Early morning and late afternoon game-drives in land rovers make close and memorable encounters with the “Big Five”. The lodge also offers an invigorating 3-night adventure walking safaris in the Amazulu Private Game Reserve.

With a diversity of vegetation from rolling hills, grass and wetlands, this is home not only to the larger animal species but also the smaller, fascinating world of insects, amphibians and birds. Boasting over 420 different birds in the area, it is an ornithologist’s paradise!

Added to this is your first-hand exposure to the royal Zulu heritage, and their culture.

Be entranced by traditional dancing in our Zulu Kraal under the stars, or listen to ancestral stories that have been passed down generations. Their smiling faces and genuine joy to share their heritage is enthralling.

In completing the royal Kingdom experience, our accommodation is made up of 6 luxury river front suites plus two splendid Umntwana Honeymoon suites, suitably befitting a King and his Queen, emulate serenity with ceiling-high windows and indulgent bathrooms. An open-plan design sets them apart with a spacious deck, private plunge pool and hammock overlooking the river. The perfect place to say “I do”.

We call it ‘the Amakhosi feeling’! It is felt by each and every guest who has visited our magical part of Africa. We invite you to do the same.
