Aptly described as voracious and fierce, the tiger-fish are found in warm, well oxygenated water, mainly in larger rivers and lakes, tending to frequent the surface layers where it often falls prey to the swooping African Fish Eagle.
Lake Jozini is the Pongola Game Reserve is the most southern river / lake where tiger-fish are endemic. Although widespread and still common in certain areas like the Pongola river, tiger-fish are declining in most rivers due to pollution, water extraction and obstructions like weirs and dams that prevent their passage up-or downstream to suitable spawning sites along flooded river banks and lake shores.
From the novice fisherman to the expert anglers fishing with a fly, Lake Jozini offers you the ideal location for tiger-fish of a lifetime, while you enjoy the pristine wilderness setting that compares favourably to the wilds of Lake Kariba in Zimbabwe.
Lake Jozini fish species list:
Barbel - Clarias Gariepinus Bulldog - Marcusenius macrolepidotus Butter Barbel - Brycinus imberi Imberi - Labeo congoro Purple labeo - Labeo rosae Mozambique Telapia - Oreochromis mossambicus Red-breasted Telapia - Tilapia rendalli Tiger Fish - Hydrocinus vittatus | | | | Game Viewing
