George Airport to Oudtshoorn is 63 km. The approach road from George is the N12. In Oudtshoorn the N12 changes to Baron van Rheede or R328 and continues to the Cango Caves. Route 62 from Calitzdorp crosses Baron van Rheede. Zero your odometer at the Oudtshoorn Information Centre in Baron van Rheede Street/R328 and drive through Schoemanspoort towards the Cango Caves. All distances are from this point. At 27.3 km turn left at the Prince Albert T-junction, you are just 2 km short of the Cango Caves at this point. At 39.3 km turn left at the sign Matjiesrivier/Calitzdorp, you are just 3 km short of the start of the Swartberg Pass at this point. At 45.0 km you will get the Swartberg Backpackers sign to turn right. Drive on the dusty gravel road for 1.5 km until you reach the end and the entrance to Swartberg Backpackers.
