If using a GPS / Google Maps, please make sure to take the route via Vaalwater, not through Thabazimbi (the bridge on the gravel road between Thabazimbi and the Welgevonden West Gate is broken). From Johannesburg/Pretoria, take the N1 towards Modimolle Get off the N1 at Modimolle, turn left on R33 towards Modimolle Drive through Modimolle in the direction of Vaalwater / Lephalale on R33 Drive through Vaalwater, continue straight on R517 in the direction of Lephalale, after the Spar & Total station at the Vaalwater exit (do not follow R33 from there) Drive approximately 48kms from Vaalwater town exit to Bulge River / Schoongelegen turn off. You will have passed Welgevonden game reserve signs to South Gate, East Gate and Main gate (on your left from Vaalwater). Turn left on the gravel road in the direction of Schoongelegen. There is a manual boom gate with a guard. Please tell the guard that you are going to Welgevonden West Gate so that he can let you through. Drive for approx. 16.5 kms on the gravel road to the West Gate Entrance (on your left).
