From directions from Port Elizabeth/Uitenhage: ROUTE 1: Through Steytlerville (More tar and less Gravel - Gravel 38 km) 1. Take the R75 to Wolwefontein, then turn towards Steytlerville. Drive straight through the town until you reach the gravel road — from there, track your distance: it’s ±32 km to Shama. 2. After 4 km, at the fork, keep right. There should be a sign to turn right for "Grootrivierpoort" 3. Continue 18 km toward the mountain. Pass through two gates, ignoring smaller roads on the right — stay straight. 4. At the next fork, keep left. You’ll now drive alongside the mountain, not directly toward it. 5. About 10 km further, pass the house “De Poortje” and go through a narrow gate. Continue past a farm entrance on the right (Tobie Ferreira) marked by a large boulder. 6. Slow down — On the next fork/T-Junction, turn right. There should be another sign for "Grootrivierpoort" 7. Only ~ 500 m to the final turn! 8. After about 300 m, pass a pump house on the left. The road bends left — drive slowly and watch for a two-track path on your left and the Shama Sign Board. 9. Turn left and follow the two track road to the main entrance gate where our staff will receive you and start the check-in process. ROUTE 2: Scenic Route Through Hottentotspoort (Less tar and More Gravel - Gravel 56 km) 1. Take the R75 from Uitenhage, then turn left at the Kleinpoort farmstall Drive straight through Kleinpoort and Springbokvlakte for 18 km until you reach a T-Junction. 2. At the T-Junction, turn right to Steytlerville and continue for 24.7 km and turn left. there should be a sign for "Hottentotspoort". 3. Continue 15 km through "Hottentotspoort" and various small streams and ranges. Really beautiful area here. 4. On the next fork/T-Junction, keep left. There should be another sign for "Grootrivierpoort" on your left. 5. Only ~ 500 m to the final turn! 6. After about 300 m, pass a pump house on the left.
