Accommodation near Bloemfontein Showgrounds - 3
The Bloemfontein Showgrounds is a multi-purpose venue which comprises of several rooms, halls and outside areas of varying sizes and functionalities. It is one of the few places in Bloemfontein that can hold private functions as well as large-scale festivals and exhibitions. The lapa and swimming pool, for example, are for your more informal and intimate affairs, while the banquet hall calls for more prestigious, sit-down dinners. All are fully equipped with all the facilities one might need – including tables, chairs and a fully-functioning bar.
Some of the most popular events in the Free State are held here, such as the Baba Indaba and the Bloem Show or ‘Bloem Skou’ as it is referred to by the locals. As the name might suggest, ‘The Baba Indaba’ attracts a niche market – new mothers and fathers who are on the lookout for helpful information on parenthood. The showgrounds are one of the chosen destinations for the annual Bloem Show. This event is unique - combining a myriad of agricultural, entertainment and trade activities, including the likes of sheep shearing competitions and the agricultural championships of farm animals and livestock.
While predominantly used for events, the grounds have a fully functioning storage unit – a facility that is both cost-effective and safe. There is also the option of hiring out office space. To date, the showgrounds are the premises for several companies, including the likes of Glassmaster Aluminium and Free State Datalec.
Popular tourist attractions in the nearby areas include the Bloemfontein Golf Club and the Free State Stadium. The club’s 18-hole course is not only a challenging round of golf but has held some notable tournaments over the years, such as the South African Opens. The Free State Stadium is a dedicated sports centre that hosted soccer matches during the 2010 FIFA world cup.

It is disappointing to see this once-thriving and beautiful city deteriorating, in many respects!

Bloemfontein
Sadly, Bloemfontein's Municipality has failed in keeping the city in the pristine condition it always was! Dirty street kerbs, pot-holed roads, litter blowing around, traffic lights not working - to mention but a few!!!
