Accommodation near Fish Hoek Beach
Thirty kilometers outside of Cape Town lies a lovely little coastal town called Fish Hoek. It is home to permanent residents and vacationers alike who are drawn to its lazy atmosphere and its pretty beach.
The northern side of the beach is popular with surfers while the southern side of the beach is reserved for swimming. There are restaurants and children’s playing areas situated in front of this section of the beach, as well as a path known as the Jaggers Walk, Jager Walk or as the locals call it, the Cat Walk. The Jager Walk was named after the first major of Fish Hoek and is a path through the rocks that forms a promenade. It is an exceptionally scenic walk, right at the ocean’s edge and makes for an easy Sunday stroll.
Fish Hoek, like Cape Town Central has a Mediterranean climate and experiences hot summer days which are cooled by the south-easterly wind referred to by the locals as the ‘Cape Doctor’. Between the sunshine and the heat, there is no better place to spend the summer than at the beach!
Fish Hoek’s beach is 1,5 kilometers long and along with the odd fisherman is often bustling with dog-walkers, surfers, swimmers and kayakers. It is a popular beach among locals and visitors because not only is the ocean temperature of False Bay much warmer than the Atlantic Seaboard on the other side of the peninsula, but the beach has a beautiful setting, surrounded on 3 sides by mountains.
