Accommodation near Froggy Pond
'Froggy Pond' is a deceiving name for this inshore, rocky reef, as sea explorations into its depths provide divers with an abundance of marine life, but not a single sighing of frogs.
Froggy Pond is a dive sight that is located in Simonstown, a seaside town found along the False Bay coast. Not only is the site relatively safe, but it is suitable for divers who are looking for a training session because of its shallow, flat bottom.
To keep the area from harm by those looking to deplete the marine life and impinge damage on the clean environmentally-friendly beaches, the sight was declared a Marine Protected Area since 2001. Those who are looking to explore the area or embark upon a recreational dive need to attain a permit before such activities are permitted.
As Froggy Pond is situated in shallower waters, there is an absence of large breeds of fish. However, scuba divers will be entranced by the abundance in cuttlefish, small, luminous octopus and vast amount of multi-coloured seaweed that gently float around on top of the waves.
Those looking to dive at Froggy Pond must take note of the notorious south easterly winds that frequently bluster through the Cape Peninsula. While the cove is mostly sheltered from the shorter swells caused by the wind, diver have, in the past been subject to unpleasant experiences, so it's best to not venture out during the midst of a gale force wind. For enthusiasts looking to explore the hidden treasures of the reef, the best time of year to dive is during wintertime. While the waters may be a little chillier, the tides are low and the winds are lighter than normal.
While diving sees the flocking of many to Froggy Pond, the spot is also a photographer's delight. With its rocky outcrops, coves and an ocean boasting various hues of blue, one is able to capture some incredible photographs.

Simon's Town
We love it to bits, slow, gentle with a great range of eateries. Just packed with history and beautiful buildings from the turn of the 20th century. A tragedy regarding the railway line; only in Africa could this occur, that a 200m stretch of beach with shifting sands can close a railway line down. The line has been operating for over a hundred years, and now suddenly they can't keep the tracks clear of sand.
