Accommodation near Glenmore Beach
Glenmore Beach is often mistaken for Munster Beach, a neighbouring bay that is also found on the Hibiscus Coast. The reason for this confusion is due to Glenmore’s location, it is found in the town of Munster. Yet despite the two bays being regarded as interchangeable, Glenmore Beach has a distinct charm of its own.
Tourists and locals will agree that Glenmore Beach is incredibly beautiful, comprising of white sand, lush vegetation and giant rocky outcrops. During high tide, thunderous waves crash onto the boulders; certainly a sight visitors can marvel over on their lazy afternoon walks along the coastline.
Due to the favourable swells and breakers, the bay is a popular surfing spot. As the waters are shark-protected and the beach is watched over by lifeguards, visitors can paddle or swim in the cascading waves. With the abundance of fish in the area, Glenmore Beach is a haven for anglers. The area sees the annual sardine run, where shoals-upon-shoals migrate from the cold waters of the Cape to the warmer Indian Ocean. The presence of sardines attracts hundreds of dolphins, a sight that one has to see in order to believe.
While the area is popular year-round, a good time to visit is between the months of April to October. During these times, there are regular sighting of the bottle-nosed and common dolphins, as well as the Southern Right Whale. The Southern Right Whales migrate to the coastline to mate and breech. From ashore, you’ll be able to see mothers and their calves frolicking in the waves.
