Accommodation near Greytown Country Club

The Greytown Country Club is a pretty club, complete with golf course, in the heart of KwaZulu Natal. It lies within the Midlands mist belt, approximately 75 kilometres from Pietermaritzburg and under 200 kilometres from Durban.

The climate of the area means that summers (December to March) are warm with occasional thunderstorms in the afternoons, while the winters are also warm although the night-time temperatures can get veritably icy. Generally it is a well-watered area, which can only mean good things for the Greytown golf course.

The 9-hole course was built in the 1920's, and although technically only providing half a round of golf, the lush scenery of rolling hills and farmlands makes up for its stunted length. The course is well-maintained and the local golfers are friendly, which of course makes all the difference.

The facilities at the Greytown Country Club also keep members hooked. The clubhouse has numerous facilities to offer visitors and members alike, before, during or after a game. For socialising there is the halfway house, serving light meals, or the bar, while the restaurant serves the needs of those with either a larger appetite or more time. There are also conference facilities available which can be adapted for a business or personal event.

The club has a pro-shop on the premises too, where equipment like golf carts and clubs can be rented. There is a pro available to offer advice, and for those in need of a bit of practise, there are chipping and putting greens as well as a practice bunker.

The club's atmosphere, which extends to the dress code, is casual and visitors are welcome any time, except for Mondays, when the course is closed for maintenance.

Greytown
Our visit to Greytown was a unique experience. The trip from Pietermaritzburg is very scenic. Our first impression was that we had come to a beautiful Midlands town, surrounded by fields and forests. Our host recommended the Country Club for supper, where we were soon chatting to the locals, who made us feel very welcome and at home. We learnt about the history of the town and the important role it played in the development of the area. We enjoyed a delicious lunch with friends at the local nursery restaurant, which has a magnificent view across the hills. We were very pleased that we had taken a detour from the usual highway to enjoy another beautiful part of our lovely country.
