Accommodation near Namaqua National Park

For most of the year, Namaqua National Park is arid, parched and dusty – typical of most terrain found in the region. The reserve is located in the Northern Cape, 67-kilometers south of Springbok and a five-hour drive from Cape Town on the N7.

Between the months of July and the beginning of October, the dry land is covered in a colourful tapestry of orange and yellow spring flowers. While the timing and quantity change each year, the phenomena attract thousands of visitors annually who travel vast distances view the colourful bounties of flowers.

Those who visit the reserve during the off-season can embrace the peace and quiet. While there is not much to do by way of activity, this is essentially the point. Individuals can take drives to view herds of buck, zebra, and other wildlife, or take relaxed walks around the reserve. While exploring, be on the lookout for the 3 500 indigenous plant species – 1000 of which don’t grow anywhere else in the world. The more active can hire mountain bikes at the reception area and enjoy rides along the designated cycling trails.

Overnight guests can enjoy a comfortable stay in self-catering chalets. During your stay you may have close encounters with curious antelope – the bold klipspringer and springbok are known to walk right through the campsite and into the chalets of unsuspecting guests.

Visitors who wish to explore the park in its entirety can embark on the Caracal 4x4 Eco-Route. The trail takes you on a 180-kilometer trail through the reserve and ends at the coast. The coastal region is rich in bird life and is home to the rare Heavisides dolphins

Springbok is a beautiful town, and we spend the rest of the week in the Springbok Inn. We
travelled the whole area up to Nieuwoudtsville and even to Alexander Bay, and enjoyed every moment!!

Interesting place. Goegap Nature reserve nearby quite impressive. Very informed staff. VERY committed to nature conservation, extremely knowledgeable.
The town itself is not really quaint but interesting nevertheless as well as the locals .We took part in the Springbok Parkwalk too.
The superb Springbok Lodge serves excellent local food and has valuable books etc in the area and surrounds as well as books on local flora.

A typical small South African town that was not a destination but a stop-over point.
