Accommodation near Plettenberg Bay Game Reserve
If you have done any research into the Garden Route's
attractions, you will be familiar with the wide range of activities offered in
the area. Among them are beach outings, visits to animal sanctuaries and meals
at scenic restaurants, among other things. However, if you are interested in
getting to know South Africa's wildlife, none of these attractions will come
close to a visit to the Plettenberg Bay Game Reserve.
The reserve is situated in the hills above the Garden Route
coastline, roughly 12 kilometres outside of Plettenberg Bay itself. It sits at
the confluence of 2 rivers, the Keurbooms and the Palmiet, which in turn
contribute to the diversity of the reserve. The area consists of 3 biomes -
fynbos, grassland and indigenous forest, which provide a home to no fewer than
35 species of mammals and over 100 bird species. The animals you can hope to
see include lion, hippos, rhino, buffalo, giraffe, crocodiles and many species
of antelope.
While the Plettenberg Bay Game Reserve has a wonderful lodge
which allows you to stay over and have a multi-day safari experience, it also
has excellent day-visitor facilities, and everything is well suited to
children.
You can choose between a canoe trip, a horse-back safari, a
walking safari or a traditional safari in an open game viewing vehicle. All
safaris are conducted by friendly, experienced guides. A major plus is that
they all take place in this beautiful malaria free environment.
After your chosen activity, you can make your way back to
the reception area where you can enjoy the coffee shop or order some drinks and
snacks at the bar. In winter they stoke up the fire, making for a cosy
encounter, while in summer the kids are free to play on the jungle gym outside.

Plettenberg Bay
The beach is beautiful and clean. There are lots of activities, i.e. boat excursions, etc. to take part in, as well as many restaurants. On the way to Knysna or to Nature's Valley, which are either side of Plett, we came across many more activities such as horse riding and the Knysna Elephant Park. There is such a variety of things to do to keep busy and the Robberg hikes are a big hit too. There are also farm stalls next to the main road in both directions. Such a worthwhile place to visit!
