Accommodation near The University of Limpopo

The University of Limpopo is a young addition to the South African education scene. Its doors officially opened on the 1 January 2005 after a merger between the Medical University of Southern Africa (MEDUNSA) and the University of the North.

MEDUNSA, as the name implies, focused on training healthcare professionals, specifically those from educationally disadvantaged backgrounds. The University of the North also catered to those groups of people disadvantaged by the South African government's Apartheid policies.

Both institutions had their heyday in the 1970's and their shared history of educating groups of society who were disadvantaged by the country's political policies is what informs the University of Limpopo's contemporary mission statement. That is to be a world class African university which responds to the educational, research and community needs of South African society through partnerships and knowledge generation and thus continuing the tradition of empowerment.

Because the university is the result of two institutions coming together, it is located across 2 campuses. One campus is in Turfloop, which is located north of Polokwane in Limpopo and was once the University of the North, and the other campus is located in the north of Pretoria, where MEDUNSA once had a home.

The university boasts 4 faculties, each of which have a number of specialised schools offering a range of degrees. The faculty of health sciences is located in Pretoria and consists of the school of oral healthcare sciences, healthcare sciences, health sciences and pathology and pre-clinical sciences.

There is also a faculty of humanities, the faculty of science & agriculture and the faculty of management and law.

Haenertsburg Reviews

Awesome little village,will return.
- Madelein Wessels

Lovely little town - keep it a secret so that it doesn't develop into a second Dullstroom :)

- Miemie Theron

Pleasant people in Haenertsburg and good food. Surprising little stores and merchandise. A fully stocked art shop - can you imagine? A gem right next to the road, excellent little place. Do homework before visiting, as there are numerous other attractions in and around the area as well. Drive slow through Magoebaskloof and drive into all little roads for pleasant surprises. Debenkeni Waterfalls not to be missed.
