Koes Accommodation

The tiny village of KoŽs can be found roughly two hundred kilometres away from the Botswana border in the heart of the arid East region of Namibia. While KoŽs is remote, even by Namibian standards, it has a unique charm all of its own.

KoŽs is best known as a stopover for weary travellers who need a suitable place to stay when commuting from Botswana towards central Namibia, or to the coast. From KoŽs it is easy to get to Keetmanshoop, or to Namibia's Capital City, Windhoek. It is also conveniently located 200km from the Fish River Canyon, which is one of Namibia's most popular tourist attractions.

There is more to KoŽs than just a convenient place for a pit stop when travelling through Namibia, however. This little desert town is an excellent location to use as a base for exploring the wonders of the world's longest stretch of sand, the Kalahari Desert, either on your own or with an official tour guide. You may even get to experience a once in a life time chance to observe and interact with nomadic San tribes. The Desert has been their home for centuries, and many tour guides are able to facilitate communication with these fascinating migratory desert people.

If you find yourself in KoŽs for a few days and you're looking for something to do, motorsports are a good bet. KoŽs's location on the edge of a large pan makes it a popular spot for motorsports of all kinds, with the annual KoŽs Pan Rally taking place on the first weekend of July every year. The twice yearly Desert Run Route also goes through th town of KoŽs, and many participants in the race choose KoŽs as their first night's pit stop. Other activities in KoŽs include hunting - in particular, biltong hunting, which is a major part of the KoŽs culture.

If you are into photography, the KoŽs pan, whether seasonally filled with water or dried up, has beautiful photographic potential. Bring your camera along and hone your skills in the magnificent Kalahari Desert.

Koes Reviews

The Underberg area had good eating places and a big store to buy all our groceries so we did not have to carry much . All the people we met were very friendly and welcoming. Enjoyed the many trails and spent some time at the Sani Pass Hotel. Overall a wonderful experience and will be back soon.
