Kruger Gate Unterkünfte
Kruger Gate refers to the area outside the Paul Kruger gate into the Kruger National Park, one of South Africa’s most famous tourist attractions and one of its largest protected areas. The Kruger Gate is situated in the southern section of the reserve on the banks of the Sabi River, in the section of Mpumalanga province known as the lowveld.
The word veld is Afrikaans for grasslands and the lowveld is the part of the province where the land dips down off the interior plateau. This region experiences a subtropical climate, with hot, humid summers between October and March, and pleasant, dry winter months between May and July. A significant point to note is that the wet conditions in summer provide a habitat ripe for breeding mosquitos and malaria is a real threat.
The most obvious reason to visit this area to experience the Kruger National Park – home to Africa’s famous Big 5, rhino,elephant, lion, leopard and buffalo, among many other intriguing speciesincluding many varieties of birds. From accommodation outside Kruger Gate, it is very easy to take day trips into the park, be they traditional game drives or walking safaris. You could also of course use Kruger Gate as a stop off point and continue on to accommodation within the park.
The spectacular Panorama Route is also an attraction in the area, with sights such as the Blyde River Canyon, Bourke’s Luck Potholes and many gorgeous waterfalls to capture your imagination.
Kruger Gate is located north of White River and Nelspruit, and 35 kilometres to the east of Hazyview. Furthermore, it is only a 4,5 hour drive from the hubs of Johannesburg and Pretoria.
