Praia do Bilene Accommodatie
Praia do Bilene or Bilene is a rural beach resort located in southern Mozambique. Due to its close proximity to Johannesburg, Bilene is a popular holiday destination for South African tourists.
One of the biggest drawcards to the resort is the San Martin Lagoon. The lagoon stretches for 27-kilometres and is an ideal family spot. Children can take part in beach games while bathers can enjoy safe swims in the shallow waters. It is also popular for water sports enthusiasts. During the afternoons, you’ll often find canoeists paddling around the perimeter of the lagoon, or windsurfers battling against waves during high tide.
Quad biking is another popular activity in Bilene. There are numerous off-road trails that take you through villages and around inland lakes. If you’re looking for something a little less adventurous, birding is a relaxing way to spend an afternoon. During summer, twitchers will have the opportunity to spot flamingos and other water birds who visit the area in search of food.
While Bilene is only partially commercialised, there are numerous hotels and self-catering chalets which offering luxury accommodation to guests. For the hungry and thirsty, beachfront restaurants and bars offer a wide selection of seafood cuisine and exotic cocktails.
If you’re looking to enjoy picnics on the beach, fresh produce and basic goods can be purchased at the local superette. On the weekends, local vendors sell their wares at the weekly market. Here, you can purchase a miscellany of trinkets, memorabilia, and traditional cuisine.
While Bilene is a great destination on its own, it is also an ideal stop-over for travellers en route to Bazaruto Archipelagoes; a group of six islands that are inundated with tourists during holiday seasons.
