Darling Wildflower Show 2018
Darling is celebrating its 101st Wildflower Show this year! The Darling Wildflower Show has been presented by the Darling Wildflower Society since 1917.
This year it is taking place from 14-16 September 2018 at its usual haunt – the Darling Golf Club and the theme is Conservation – The Next Generation. The show began with the aim of displaying Darling's beautiful floral displays while also promoting conservation and education.
Darling lies within the West Coast Biosphere reserve in the centrefold of the threatened lowland sandplain and renosterveld fynbos. The show, therefore, represents a concentration of plants which bloom in spring, although many of the plants on display flower irrespective of the season. The Darling district represents a diverse floral kingdom of about 1200 species. Approximately 80 (6, 5%) are endemic, whilst the rest also occur in areas elsewhere.
The show includes a large landscaped hall of indigenous flowers with beautiful botanical art on display. All flowers and plants on show grow wild in the Darling district and are picked under the strict supervision of the Darling Wildflower Society.
There will also be indigenous plants available at bargain prices. The Flower Show will be offering a variety of activities to entertain young and old. Tickets include the Landscaped Hall depicting the flowers of the area in their natural habitat, a Craft & Gourmet Food Market, a Veteran Tractor/Car Display, an Entertainment Tent featuring live music from famous local acts, safe and secure parking for vehicles and more!
