Elim Wine Festival 2015
It's that time of the year again when the sleepy town of Elim comes abuzz with festivity during the 4th annual Elim Wine Festival which takes place on the 10 October 2015.
The village of Elim, which is located on the Agulhas Plain in the Western Cape, has changed little since it was first established in 1824. Visitors to the area can enjoy the picturesque sites of the age-old whitewashed cottage, fruit trees and widespread fynbos. To date, the town has been recognised as the country's youngest and most south wine growing region. This being no mean feat as wine farmers are at the mercy of extreme weather conditions.
Festival-goers can embark on a one-of-a-kind wine tasting experience that features ten of the region’s acclaimed farms. These winemakers will be doling out tasters of the countries finest cool climate wines - think Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin Blanc. What's more, if you're wanting to learn more about the wines, tutored wine tastings are available to the newbie and sommelier alike.
Sit back and swirl a glass of the finest red and white wines while listening to the live music performances of Afrikaans music legend, Valiant Swart.
While the wines are the main attraction, the festival caters to all tastes and ages with its country-styled cooking, exquisite flower displays, and some rather unusual 'Elim-esque' activities to partake in.
Bring out your inner-horticulturist and enjoy the sights of the vibrant flower displays or bust a hunger pang with some country-styled cooking at the Local Produce Market.
MTB cycle trails and trails runs, for the fitness enthusiast and the couch potatoe, will also be forming part of the festivities. However, if you're looking to do something different, Elim will be hosting a number of bizarre activities such as a sheep dog display, vintage tractor parades, a horseback archery performance and a kid-friendly crop spraying plane demonstration.
The festival takes place on Saturday 10th October from 10 am - 5 pm. Be sure to get your tickets soonest!
