Avondrood Guest House is a charming well-maintained Victorian Cape-Dutch style house built in 1870. It has been tastefully renovated adding modern-day comforts whilst retaining many features of the original building. There are eight generous rooms each with a distinctive décor creating a unique ambiance and with luxurious comforts of its own. As we enjoy fine arts, a contemporary selection of paintings and sculptures decorate the rooms, lounge, garden and patio. The premises are surrounded by a lush secluded 2000 square meter garden with private swimming pool. Franschhoek should be top of the list for anyone visiting South Africa. Rich in history as it is one of South Africa's oldest towns, today's Franschhoek is well-known for its award winning wines, restaurants and venues. A true haven for connoisseurs of fine food and drink. With its friendly small village atmosphere Franschhoek has a number of delightful art & craft shops, as well as offering you the opportunity to visit the Huguenot Museum or the famous Franschhoek Motor Museum. The delights of the town’s centre are to be found along the “main road” which is within easy walking distance of Avondrood Guesthouse. Close by you will find two high-ranking golf courses, Pearl Valley and Boschenmeer. Most of the surrounding vineyards offer wine tasting followed by lunch should you so wish. The vineyards and the surrounding countryside can be explored by car, bicycle, on horseback or on foot; in short distance there is lot for you to enjoy and experience in Franschhoek. But should you prefer to take it more leisurely then why not simply enjoy the African sun from the side of our swimming pool, or from our patio or garden; Franschhoek has on average 3000 hours of sun a year and the sunrises and sunsets are a must-see in their own right, which can be viewed from the comfort of Avondrood Guesthouse.
