Hlumu Lodge is located a mere 6km outside of the Badplaas Valley, where it sits on the foot of the Hlumuhlumu Mountains and is a comfortable 3 hour drive from Gauteng. Hlumu Lodge is an ideal stopover for travellers en route to the Kruger National Park, Swaziland and Mozambique.

Hlumu Lodge is also home to DIY Wild, a wildlife rescue and rehabilitation centre. Staying at Hlumu Lodge gives you the unique opportunity to become involved in the wildlife rehabilitation centre and to join us as a volunteer for a few hours or even a few days! See what is involved in the rescue and care of wildlife and make some new animal friends! Pre-booking of a volunteer experience is essential.

We have individual chalets which sleep from 2 to 6 people, some of which are self catering chalets. All chalets have private verandas overlooking the spectacular mountains and have a homely atmosphere. All of which makes Hlumu the ideal destination for a naturally beautiful and relaxing getaway.

Each chalet is equipped with linen, towels, tea/coffee making facilities, fans, wall heaters and TV's with selected DSTV or OpenView Tv. All Chalets are serviced daily.

The Lodge itself has a restaurant, where there's always something delicious for dinner. The bar area is fully stocked and hosts a pool table, dartboard and T.V for entertainment. There's also a cosy fireplace with couches to curl up on for those chilly evenings.

Lodge's homepage really not up to date. Expected to really be able to "lounge" at the pool-area as what was advertised, but ... I really was disappointed. Only one pool was "working" but we rather did not use it. Cabin was a bit "run-down" and really needs a bit of touch-up. Porch chairs very poor quality, always had to sit "on the edge" in case they would just give way beneath u.!! So relaxing on porch was not really possible. Inside the cabin there also was no table that could've been used for working on your PC or just drinking coffee! But after the first shock wore off one got used to this. What was really good was the breakfasts we booked, owner and staff really friendly and helpful.

A nice stay, the food was good and the staff very friendly. Had to ask for the TV remote. For a 3 Star establishment everything should work though - tap in bathroom leaked water. 1 light not working.

Hlumu Lodge is ideal for couples / people with no children seeking peace and quiet. The view of the mountain is spectacular and the farm animals roaming the grounds makes it feel more "outdoor". The pool and restaurant / bar are ideal. I would suggest better beds as it is a bit outdated and overused. The service of all the staff was friendly and helpful. The chalet was clean and cosy and the kitchen being on the "outside" is a great idea. I would only suggest the linen to be washed in a strong / dettol-like washing powder as it smelled of "male and perspiration" and the towels to be replaced on the second day. Overall it is value for money, it is peaceful / quiet / cosy / private and what you expect of being "outdoors". Then just on a personal note due to the heavy rain we experienced - it would have been great if we were informed prior to arrival that the bridge going to Hlumu Lodge was flooded and that alternative directions would be given, as I was not travelling with a 4x4 the road was horrific and very scary for "ladies" travelling alone.
