"In the Wilderness build me a nest
Let me remain there forever and rest"

Wilderness and the Garden Route offer plenty to do, see and experience. From Wilderness there are many scenic drives to make within a day. So it's an easy place to stay for a few days. Visit Oudtshoorn, with the famous Cango Caves and Ostrich farms or Tsitsikamma National Park and other popular coastal places such as Knysna, Mosselbay and Plettenberg Bay.

Also the Wilderness National Park, about 100 km˛ with lakes, rivers and lagoons is a place not to be missed. About 70% of all the waterbirds of Southern Africa, among the Malachite Kingfisher, the Sacred Ibis and the Spoonbill can be spotted in the Wetlands of Wilderness. Besides birdwatching the area, with it's lakes and rivers, is ideal for outdoor activities like boat rides, hiking, mountain biking, parasailing, water-skiing, (shark)diving, canoeing and sailing.

Wilderness is situated centrally in the Garden Route and Little Karoo, and therefore it's an ideal starting point for exploring different touristic sites in the area. Go and see the ostrich farms in Oudtshoorn, the Dias Museum in Mossel Bay, the Waterfront in Knysna or the beautiful beaches of Plettenberg Bay. These are all within easy reach as a day trip.

You may also wish to do any of the outdoor activities in the area like ocean swimming, hiking, canoeing and horse riding or choose to relax at the beach. Wilderness is also known for whale and dolphin spotting and a favourite destination for paragliding fans.
