Situated in the picturesque Eastern Cape and sharing two borders with the Groendal Wilderness Area, Kleinrivier offers you the ideal escape from the pressures of city life. Redefine the word "tranquility" as you explore pristine mountain fynbos, rest in the shade of riverine forests or stroll through Karoo tropical thicket. Be startled by the thunder of kudu breaking cover and amazed at how nimbly klipspringer leap from boulder to boulder. Kleinrivier's accommodation includes lodges, chalets, tents and campsites entwined with nature, each offering a unique Wilderness experience.
Shaded by Forest Elder and Tierhout trees, your carpeted tent will be a cool oasis even on the hottest Karoo day. Two tents have double beds and two have two single beds each. Linen and towels are supplied. Sprung mattresses add to the little luxuries found in the tents. The kitchen is well equipped, including a 12V camping fridge. A large deck features a boma style fireplace to sit around while the owls and dassies serenade. We only book one party into camp at a time so you will not have to share facilities. There is a 5 minute walk from the parking area to camp. The path is rocky so pack accordingly. The parking is accessible with normal sedan cars.
The four chalets were built by nature lovers for nature lovers. Situated apart from each other the thick riverine bush ensures privacy. The chalets either have views up the Kleinrivier valley or across to the cliffs on the opposite side (where the dassies bask in the morning sun). Dassie 1 and 2 overlook a stream fed by a perennial spring and even have shallow pools where you can dip if you do not mind sharing with the frogs and fish. All linen and towels are supplied. Most units have two single beds which can be linked to form a King size double. The bathrooms look out onto their own private gardens. Some units have showers inside and outside. Each unit has its own kitchen with either a 12V camping fridge or access to a fridge nearby. Lighting is supplied by solar powered batteries. Braai facilities are paramount. Some units have a choice of two outside and an inside fireplace.

This campsite is situated around a man made 'natural' rock pool. There is a covered lapa with a sink, a coal stove and a fireplace. An open braai area is also available. The campsite is essentially a bush camp with no electricity. The ablution is supplied with hot water from a wood burning "donkey" geyser. Some sites are grassy while others are in the shade of the soetdoring trees. Soetdorings is only booked to one party at a time so there is no sharing of facilities.
For a true wilderness experience where you feel like the only people left on the planet. The Stone Lodge sleeps 6 in one double bed and 4 single beds. The double bed is in a separate room and has a view out over the Karoo. The four single beds are on two raised platforms on either side of the main room. Two of them can be linked to create a King size bed. Bedding and towels are supplied. The bathroom has a shower with a view that stretches for 100's of kilometres on a clear day. You will find everything that you need in the kitchen and have the option of cooking on gas, indoor fire or outside fire. Evenings will inevitably be spent in front of a fire on the large leather couch. Solar panels run the lights and 12V camping fridge. It is important to note that to drive to the Stone Mountain Lodge you require a 4x4 with low range and dif lock, alternatively you can hike there via the two gorges trail (11km up and 11km down via a different route.) We can arrange to carry your luggage to and from the lodge but this may involve an extra fee if it involves our staff over weekends. Allow 6 hrs to walk to the lodge or 1 ½ hrs to drive up. If you do not own a suitable vehicle, transfers can be arranged from reception.
