Mieliefontein Karoo Guestfarm

From R300 PPS

Overview

Mieliefontein is situated in the Karoo Gariep Hippo Conservancy and is known for delicious home-cooked meals and park-like Gardens. This is real peace of heaven. The Guestfarm offers you a special experience and Karoo life can be enjoyed with an abundance of garden bird to see, sparkling swimming pool and big lawns to relax at on those hot african days.

We offer 8 different day trips from the conservancy to the bigger Karoo area. Stay with us for 3 or 4 days and explore the Sea Cow River Meander. Drive to New Bethesda and back on farm roads. Visit Orania and the Van Der Kloof Dam. Go to see a surocat Colony responding to the farmers calls. Come and try, horse riding, walks, a hippo drive, birding and photography, bright stars and clear skies. Let it be your destination not just a stay over.

This vast 12 000-hectare Karoo farm is halfway between Johannesburg and Cape Town in the Hanover district. Here sheep and cattle are raised and guests may tour the farm. Built in 1964 by owners Ian and Elma Ferreira, the farm house is set in parklike Gardens and is decorated with a mix of antique pieces and cottage furniture. Spacious bedrooms are en-suite, and one has a private bathroom, with a separate self-contained cottage for families.

Beautiful surroundings. However our host was not available due to circumstances, which was understandable and she did make other arrangements for us with her children BUT I especially requested pet friendly accommodation and she was not aware of this request, although I did receive an email stating that Mieliefontein could accommodate my dog. She was not sure if her children could accommodate Trixie and we therefore decided to stay at Mieliefontein all by ourselves and not drive back on the N1 to the neighbouring farm. The domestic worker however was very friendly and accommodating, ensuring that we had clean towels and some ice for our drinks.

Fantastic Karoo lamb braai and accommodating host.
Just what we had in mind. We are unfortunately a cyber-/internet/-computer loving family and none of us even touched our iPads, iPhones, PS4's etc etc. Very relaxing, quality time. And yes, there was sufficient cell reception, most of the time!

An oasis in the middle of nowhere. The establishment and owners are very friendly and commendable. The gardens are beautifully laid out and maintained and a cool swim in the pool was most welcome during the heat of the day. Excellent meals were prepared and served by Elma (wife) and all guests sat around the long dining room table and enjoyed the company of the owner. A very enjoyable experience.

Poor service, the lady was rude and didn't know how to serve her clients, I wouldn't recommend anyone to go there.
