Guest Comments

As a frequent traveller for business purposes, I experience interesting and, sometimes, jaw dropping experiences at different places of accommodation.

My latest one, however, was one of the most frustrating.

It started off with myself arriving ten minutes earlier than the allowed time of 14:00 at (Moramba Cottage, a guest house in Port Elizabeth) . As the owner does not reside on the premises and has a fulltime job, he is not in a position to answer telephone calls. The cleaning lady is thus the person to contact. Outside the gate were three intercom buttons. After trying them all several times, no person reacted. As I mentioned earlier, the owner is at work, so no joy trying to contact him either. Now keep in mind that this happened after an early flight, after which I had to spend hours waiting for my accommodation to become available.

Eventually, after 20 minutes, the gate opened.

Inside the unit I found a good sized area with most of the basic necessities.

The braai area, (which was not cleaned since the previous guests left) however, did not look like the picture I viewed on the Internet and was right next to a room, which I initially thought was the cleaning lady's room. After a few days, however, I gathered that it was a store room/laundry, used by the cleaning lady and the gardener. The other assumption afterwards was that the cleaning lady does not live on the premises.

Two of the four pretty scatter cushions in the lounge area, had such an unbearable smell of perspiration, so much so that I wanted to get it right out of the unit. I then asked the owner to do just that.
Also the doors of the kitchen cupboards corner unit could not be opened. It's busy falling off. So is the ceiling above the shower. No shower gel or shampoo in the shower.

One of the reasons for choosing this unit, was the fact that it was advertised as though it had the premium DSTV package. Long story short, it took more than 24 hours to "load" with no success. Within those 24 hours, numerous cell phone messages and calls were sent hence and forth between the owner and myself. After unsuccessfully trying to fix it himself (after work at that day at 17:45), he promised to send a technician to sort out the problem the next day. He also fetched me a bag full of dvd's to watch in the meantime. One of those worked for a while and then froze towards the end. All the others, although original dvd's, showed the message of "no disc". Thus no television for two days, yet I had to pay in full.

The message about the technician was to arrive after noon. And so he did, at 14:30! It took two of them until 17:45 to get the problem sorted out.

There are many pretty down-lights in the bedroom, but one can only use the reading lights as the switch for the other lights trip the main switch at every attempt to switched it on.

As I left after four nights, I was not sure where to leave the key as there was no-one on the premises to receive it. I eventually used the remote control to open the gate whilst standing outside the premises next to my car, because the gate closed in the meantime. I then ran back in to put the remote and the keys down "somewhere" and making sure to be outside again in time.

I was not issued with an invoice on my departure on the Friday. On Monday after numerous phone calls, sms and even an e-mail to Sleeping Out and the owner I eventually received the invoice Monday afternoon.
Total unprofessionalism !!!

Needless to say that I will not be making use of the accommodation again and would advise any potential guests to seriously consider other accommodation.

There would be a few things that could and should be improved on, but on a whole I enjoyed my stay

We enjoyed the fact that we had peace and quite, the cottage we stayed in was modern and for people on a business trip, I would recommend this place.

We enjoyed our stay at Moramba Cottage. It was well priced and comfortable, thoroughly equipped too. There are a few maintenance issues that need to be resolved and, if completed, there would be little that could be faulted about this accommodation option.
