Overview

Serving Trans Orange and Trans Karoo travellers since 1857, the Glasgow Pont is one of the very last of the last old -time Bo Karoo hotels. Located just a mile from the Orange river and a 5 minute drive from the Gariep Dam it is just as you expect: a long bar (longest in the Northern Cape!), a pillared veranda and a tin roof. And what goes on under it has been a delight to travellers for 150 years, even including two Free State Presidents.
We pride ourselves on old fashioned hospitality and the very best country cooking cuisine. Of course, our speciality is Bo Karoo lamb, locally grown by our neighbours, we serve it as chop stacks, rolled and stuffed leg roasts, curries and traditional potjies slowly cooked in traditional black iron pots of Karoo doornhout embers. We also offer a splendid table d'hote that is changed daily, featuring quiches, salads, home made soups, provincial meat dishes and scrumptious home made desserts. All meals are served in the 3 Monkeys Long Bar or our Pontman restaurant.
Our accommodation ranges from affordable backpacker bunks and Trans-Karooer budget rooms to our family and pet friendly En suite Dog House. Comfy beds and wet room showers are the order of the day and all you have to choose is whether to Snooze and Go or stay a while and enjoy the many delights of the High Karoo.

So happy, it was a big surprise. Still cant believe it.
- Helene Schreuder

After a long journey we were looking forward to a nice good looking room as advertised. I was very disappointed. The photos shown in Sleeping Out about Glasgow Pont Hotel was totally misleading. The room we Got did not look like the photo at all in actual fact it was dark, dingy and not as bright and colourful as in the photo. The room smelled like rotten wood. The Bedding had stains on it. The bathrooms had small sticky barrel bolts for locks and the standard of the bathrooms was really sub standard, not what you would expect for a hotel.

Very friendly hosts and although they didn't have vegetarian meals to suit my diet, they happily made a make shift meal so I didn't go hungry! Lovely hotel and lovely people in a lovely place!
