ab R2987 PPD

Mkhaya is a haven for endangered species, including four of the Big Five. From saving the local Nguni cattle breed in 1979, to the current protection of reserve is an establishment of breeding programs, the reserve is an exciting conservation success.

Mkhaya is situated in southeast Swaziland, in the heart of the African Bushveld. The reserve comprises of acacia dominated thornveld in the south to broadleaf sandveld in the north. The reserve is criss- crossed with dry riverbeds and dotted with many clay waterholes. The Bushveld vegetation of ancient Leadwoods, Knob thorns and tambotis are particularly valuable from both biological and aesthetic perspectives.

Game viewing tracks between indigenous tress allow intimate encounters with elephant, White and Black Rhino, and a rich diversity of other wildlife. Local guides share their knowledge on open Land Rover drives and walking safaris, providing superb photographic opportunities. Swazi hospitality is a feature of stone camp, where traditional meals and dancing are enjoyed beneath the giant sausage.

A night spent in one of the semi-open stone and thatch cottages offers simple African luxury and completes the Mkhaya experience.

Awesome safaris and animals were up close and plentiful. Food was good. Accommodations were a little too open for my taste.
Found the store too dark to buy anything. I was using a torch to look at things and did not see prices on the tags. My husband thought it was fantastic...everything. Guides were very knowledgeable. We were quite busy in a 24 hour period. Entertainment after dinner was
Very good as well. Thank you for a once in a lifetime experience.

Staying at the Mkhaya Game Lodge was one of the highlights of our trip to South Africa - it was rather costly, but well worth it as it was something completely different to anything else we've experienced. I can strongly recommend it to lovers of peace, tranquility and simplicity. There were certainly no compromises made on comfort. It was just a shame that the smell from the toilet was so intense.
