Aperçu

Nestled at the foot of the breathtaking Mkonjwa Mountain Range in the quaint mining town of Barberton, you'll find Fountain Baths Guesthouse. Built in 1884 as a bathhouse for gold diggers in the area, it boasts the oldest swimming pool in the old Transvaal. Today, Fountain Baths still revives the senses as a welcome retreat for travellers exploring this history-rich part of South Africa.

Fountain Baths is perfectly situated within walking distance from town. Its garden extends to the very foot of the mountain. Majestic trees and lush vegetation make this a birder's paradise. Vervet and samango monkeys, baboons and giant bush babies are regular visitors to this garden.

Part of the oldest rock formation in the world can be found on Fountain Baths' premises. And for the enquiring and energetic, there are mine tours, gold panning, a heritage walk, quad bike drives into the mountains, horse riding, guided tours for birders, hiking, 4x4 trips and good restaurants.
Accommodation is B&B or self-catering with bathrooms en suite. TV rooms have been decorated for style and comfort and they all have their own entrances into the garden.

Livre d'or

This is a fine choice for an overnight stay. The town itself doesn't offer much, but the lodging was clean and comfortable with beautiful gardens. We had a security light outside of our cottage that was so what annoying while trying to sleep. Hosts were friendly and helpful.
-

Nice historic place with huge garden and big pool, great place for kids. Rooms, bathrooms and garden furniture have seen better days and would need some repair work; kitchen utensils are limited.
-

We were delighted with the peace and garden in No 6. If we should ever get back that way we'll surely go back. The staff made an excellent job of washing our car which was unexpected.
-

Beautiful garden, Sue cooked a great breakfast and rooms were neat and comfortable! Good choice of stop over on the way to Kruger!
-

My husband and I so enjoyed our stay at Fountain Baths. The history of the place, the gardens, the bird life, the decor, the privacy of the cottages, the friendliness we found in Sue Hicks. We couldn't fault our stay and will certainly go back again.
