Country club is located in the suburb of Benoni
in Johannesburg, Gauteng. The club was established
in 1905 and is the leading country
club on the East Rand of Johannesburg. It is a well-resourced club offering
various sporting facilities and activities to members and guests.
The golf
course at the country club is an 18
-hole parklands course with a par 71 rating and bent grass greens. It is
considered one of the most challenging
courses in Gauteng, with bunkers at every one of the 18 holes and 5 dams.
This high difficulty level is also owed largely to the trees lining the fairway
which make it difficult to play most shots. This impressive course has
consistently been ranked in the top 100
golf courses in South Africa over the past few years.
This tricky
course supports a variety of bird life
as well several game species like
springbok and blesbok that can be spotted grazing on the course and between the
birds, the buck and the vegetation, it is a very pleasant course indeed!
The well-stocked pro shop at the country
club has a professional on hand to help with fitting. There is also coaching for all levels offered by a
professional. There is a practice range, driving
range as well as chipping and putting greens available for practising and
electronic pull trolleys, golf carts, golf clubs and caddies can be organised
for a fee.
While golf
is the main sport at the country club, there are also tennis courts, squash courts and bowling greens. For socialising,
there’s a bar and 3 conferencing
rooms that lead out into the beautiful gardens. It is also a popular place for
events like birthdays and weddings.
The club
does not open on Mondays, and Saturdays are reserved strictly for members.
