Accommodation near Bush Babies Monkey Sanctuary - 4
Situated in the west of Hartbeesport alongside the Elephant sanctuary, Bushbabies Monkey Sanctuary is a place where orphaned and abused monkeys are provided with the perfect environment for a halfway house until being later released into the forests and mountains.
The sanctuary provides visitors with a beautiful setting and educational experience where they can walk along the elevated meandering wooden walkways throughindigenous forests and experience a variety of exotic monkeys in a natural environment.
The Bushbabies Monkey Sanctuary was opened by Craig Saunders, a wildlife enthusiast who saw the need to provide a place of safety for unwanted ‘pet monkeys’ where, after rehabilitation, they could be free to be released into a wild environment and become habituated. Primates are under constant threat, hunted for meat, body parts or captured as pets and exported illegally to every corner of our planet.
Primates also in fact DO NOT make good pets. They require specific diets and group enrichment, as they are social animals and without this, once they become adult they can become violent, destructive and uncontrollable.
Some of the primates currently housed at the sanctuary include:
Spider Monkeys
Lemurs
Bush Babies
Squirrel Monkeys
Capuchin Monkeys
Vervet Monkeys
The Bushbabies Monkey Sanctuary is a privately owned, non-subsidised sanctuary, covering approximately seven hectares.

Great place, it was our wedding anniversary, so we went rock climbing (Own gear) at the Nuclear Crag on Africaland property, next to Necsa and enjoyed some white water rafting in the afternoon on the Crocodile River with Paddle Power. They also own a cute little restaurant with delicious food where you get off out of the raft, the Rusty Feather. Loads of little shops and found a Wonderful Portuguese restaurant right on the water at the boat club, next to the zoo, which I'll highly recommend. CHEAP Honey, in the town, driving away from the tunnel, after the Portuguese restaurant. It's solidly worth the stop, it's run by a pharmacist and her hubby.

Hartbeespoort is a lovely place to visit to get away from home. There's lot to do and see. Also, they have a lot of restaurants and shops to visit. The best thing is that its not far to travel and you in the bush and away from the concrete jungle.
