Durban Country Club is renowned for its bright, pristine, world-class greens which make it very popular amongst golf enthusiasts. Durban Country Club has hosted the prestigious South African Open 17 times, the most number of times of any other course in the country.
It is surrounded by sand dunes that add to the aesthetic appeal of the course while also adding a challenging dimension to the game there. It is an 18-hole course with its par 5, 468 metre 3rd hole being rated the best third in the world. The course overlooks the Blue Lagoon estuary and the Indian Ocean.
The Durban Country Club offers more than just golf, but other leisure and sporting facilities too. It's exquisitely nostalgic Cape Dutch architecture houses 7 all-weather tennis courts, 6 squash courts, an avid Club de Petanque (bowles) that meets regularly on the bowling greens.
The clubhouse is a stately, arresting, white gabled building constructed in 1924 and designed by Wallace Paton and WG Moffat. The dress code is 'neat and presentable at all times.' There are restaurant options too offering casual and fine dining, several event venues suitable for weddings (among others), and a KidZone that can host 30 children at a time. Social activities on offer are Bridge and Bird watching.
