Accommodation near Ernest Oppenheimer Memorial Gardens
The Ernest Oppenheimer Memorial Gardens are situted in Gariep, Kimberley in the Northern Cape.
The Gardens memorialise the late Sir Ernest Oppenheimer, diamond magnate and the first elected mayor of the municipality of the city of Kimberley when Beaconsfield and Kimberley were combined into a city in 1912. Sir Oppenheimer was also the founder of the global Anglo American Corporation.
One of the most popular attractions at the gardens is the Miners Memorial, or Diggers Fountain, which was built to honour past and present digger who pioneered for the diamond industry in South Africa. The statue was designed by Herman Wald and portrays five life-sized diggers, holding a diamond sieve. Each of the five figures represents one of Kimberley's five Big Diamond Pipes.
These pipes are the Kimberley Mine, De Beers Mine, Bultfontein Mine, du Toitspan Mine and Wesselton Mine.
Many see the The presence of such a fountain in the dry mining city as a symbol of hard work, economic success and good government.
A marble bust of Sir Ernest Oppenheimer's torso gazes out over the fountains and over a beautiful rose garden situated at the memorial site.
The gardens play host to several outdoor events and festivals are a popular tourist attraction in Kimberley.

Wow Sleeping Out! What an wonderful ending to our holiday. Thank you so much! We LOVED our stay at Langberg Guest Farm (just wish we could have stayed longer) and would highly recommend staying there. Booking via Sleeping Out was a pleasure. The website was very user-friendly and helpful especially in dealing with a place we knew nothing about. Thank you Sleeping Out and Langberg!
