Rand Hospital is one of the largest
government hospitals in South Africa and it provides medical care for the
residents of Daveyton, Brakpan, Springs, Kwathema, Tsakane, Kingsway and
Benoni. Consequently the hospital sees over
2000 patients every day thus ensuring the nurses and other medical
professionals at Far East Rand Hospital are well-versed in handling a broad
range of medical cases.

Rand Hospital has a maternity unit
that has a kangaroo mothering programme, and a soon to be extended HIV/Aids clinic. Plans for the
specialised clinic include an in-house dietician, a counsellor and a doctor.
The
hospital also has a newly renovated
canteen and there are plans afoot to consistently refurbish the hospital in
all areas from infrastructure to equipment, until it meets the maximum
standards possible.
The
hospital provides numerous services and there are a variety of special wards
and medical disciplines practiced. There is a newly established speech therapy and audio therapy unit, a
high care unit, a paediatrics unit as well as surgical and medical wards and the only rape crisis centre on the East Rand. The hospital has also
begun the construction of new wards to accommodate more patients.
Attractions near the hospital include the Rietvlei Zoo and Nature
Reserve and the Rondebult Bird
Sanctuary, both of which provide calming environments for a brief escape
from a hospital ward, if you happen to be spending long hours with a confined
loved-one.
